Sorry about the politics- this kind of stuff always irks me.
I think youtube is likely to get enough bad PR this time to reverse it. Thunderf00t is a little more popular than Nick Gisburne.
Yup: called it!
Since when has YouTube been 4chan or Reddit? Seriously.
Especially since Atheism is technically a form of religion.
Youtube has always had that side to it. It’s just really easy to ignore large bodies of content there because it’s such a huge site (example- there are nearly 3000 videos of girls making gun sounds). Also, atheism is a religion the same way that a tomato is a vegetable- technically it’s not, but for some practical purposes it must be classified as one.
It’s close enough. It’s a system of belief, that counts. a zero-god system. I amuse myself. Also, why on earth do you know that little factoid? And how?
Third, (see first comment) at least you can filter the butthurt on yootoob.
Atheism isn’t a system of belief though, it’s a rejection of a the claim that there is a god based on the evidence provided. It’s no more of a religion than “theist” is.
I know of many weird corners of the internet, for I have spent a lot of time online. Another weird corner of youtube is the videos of people getting massages. Skimming through the massive amounts of how-to info, and RMR rants on there is always a good time though.
“Atheism isn’t a system of belief though, it’s a rejection of a the claim that there is a god based on the evidence provided.”
Um, you say it isn’t a belief system, and then list some of the tenants of that belief. The belief system can be expressed pretty simply. You just have to believe that everything from the atom to a galaxy, from an ant to a blue whale and everything in human accomplishment happened completely by accident and ultimately has no meaning or significance. I have trouble accepting that.
Calling atheism a religion is about as offensive as call religion a mythology. Atheism is simply word to donate that we do not believe in a divine force, that’s the opposite of religion. I am an atheist and nihilist, the only time I even think about it is when someone else brings it up. Also, their is no unified beliefs share by atheists other than tho obvious. No moral code, no rituals, nothing to tie us together, other than the constant attacks from others. That’s not enough stuff in common to form a clubhouse, let alone a religion.
By definition religion is the set of beliefs, not the beliefs and all of the related practices. “Religion” usually includes the practices, but is defined as the beliefs. A loose fit, yes, but it does fit the definition.
The genitalia allusion is quite applicable to atheism, anyways.
Now STOP DOING POLITICS COMICS ARGLBLARGL.
The rejection of religion can not be a religion in and of itself. At best atheism is a philosophy, like existentialism or German idealism. Insisting on calling it a religion only belittles the real ones.
Crap, ment to reply to Kjh242.
Yay hard-to-program comment stacking!
Anyways, when I say it, I mean atheism as in the disbelief in god or a higher power. The belief that there is no god or gods, as the literal definition of the word “atheism” indicates. Not as rejection of religious belief.
As much as I respect your beliefs, I don’t think you understand Arrow or RTgrl very well.
There’s a neat quote going around the internet defining atheism a little more clearly: Atheism is a religion like off is a tv channel. A lack of belief isn’t a belief – it’s a logical statement – and atheism isn’t belief that God doesn’t exist, it’s a simple disbelief in gods.
That and yes, Youtube makes me mad too for their double standards. :(
Right, Atheism is a religion. Just like starving is eating, abstinence is sexual congress, and not owning a pet makes you a dog owner.
Yeesh, people can be stupid. Hold on, I’m going to go find someone standing in an empty field and accuse them of building a skyscraper.
Just like “Bald” is a hair colour…
